New regulations went into effect on April 22 of this year. This is another example of the people in government that are all smarter than you or me and that have the mission of saving us from ourselves.
The regulation applies to homes built before 1978 and describes any work that could “disturb” more than 6 sq. ft. per any room on the interior of the house or 20 feet of the exterior. All work done for compensation must be done by certified personnel. By the EPA definition, if you own a rental house it is considered for compensation. Violating these rules could result in a $35,000 fine.
The rule covers any work, including preparation for painting, replacing windows, installing new HVAC equipment, etc.
